Hello Mr. Obama. Mr. President! Or can I just call you Barack? Is that what your friends call you? Yeah, how ’bout we stick to a first name basis? I mean, you ARE in my employment after all. No, I did not choose you. I had someone else in mind for the job. (Professionally, I can’t tell you who, but his name rhymes with “McSchmain”) However, the overwhelming majority of my fellow citizens wished for your services, so all I can do is embrace the opportunity to spend the next 4 years (at least) to live in a country under your influence.

L4D\'s \"Bill\" defends against two rather hungry zombies.This past Sunday afternoon became appointment-gaming time here at KEHQ (that’s KingEclectic HQ for the uninitiated).  Contributors John, Dan (incl. missus) and I booted up our copies of “Left 4 Dead,” Valve’s latest production and arguably one of their most unique gaming experiences to-date, in order to relive - re-play? - major plot threads to every great survival horror movie.

Nearly four hours later, the surviving, er, Survivors successfully fended off the last of a zombie horde as they made their way to safety aboard a government transport vehicle.  Of the four that made their last-stand in an abandoned farmhouse, only two survived to see the end credits.  The others?  Victims of the Zombie-pocalypse.

Never has being eaten by flesh-craving zombies been so fun.

Pick up Valve’s latest work of gaming art. Find three friends to do the same - or one other if you can . And then go to town mowing down zombies. In the long, cold months of winter, there ain’t no better way to spend a day.

KingEclectic.com experienced a brief three month downtime due to a small problem with our domain name - administration forgot to set the name to “auto-renew.” Go figure.

In any case, all of that was resolved over the weekend and the site is back up!

I am sure this small tidbit of info will interest the three of you who regularly visit the site.

(BTW: Be careful when using GoDaddy as your domain registrar.  Failing to renew in a timely manner puts your domain name at their mercy for in excess of 10-times the original registration cost.)

Bo BurnhamI’ve promised KingEclectic insiders to put up a list of my favorite YouTube bloggers for some time now, but every time I get ready to finalize said list, I come across a remarkable piece of talent that threatens to turn my whole list on its head. Today’s offering is Mr. Bo Burnham. A geeky white guy with a talent for rap and flow-mastery, Bo comes across with a unique brand of humor and geekiness that is hard to describe. Check out his website to see more of his videos in higher quality.

Below, I present to you a YouTube clip of “Rehab Center for Fictional Characters.”

If you haven’t read the below posting about a story shown on Dateline NBC, then please do so before continuing. This blog is, at best, a collection of thoughts concerning the missed opportunities to save Denise Amber Lee from being the victim to a senseless murder.

It was very difficult for me to say anything about this story. In fact, it took me quite a few nights of thinking, allowing my mind to go back and forth, to even come up with anything intelligent to say. At first after reading the article and watching the videos, all I really knew was that I wanted to say something. I wanted to bring it to the attention of anyone I knew. I wasn’t exactly sure why, but just sure that they needed to read it. I felt the message in there. Somewhere. It had to be more than an emotional dead-end. It had to be more than just a story of needless and senseless murder. It had to be more than a “story of the week,” aired for the general interest. I felt the message. It wasn’t to bring people to be angry at the individuals who failed at doing everything they could to save this young mother. It wasn’t to provide us with a story that simply tugged at our emotions. It wasn’t just to give us something to do.

So, what was it? Why did I just read this story? Furthermore, why did this family experience this terrible tragedy? Read the rest of this entry »

Denise Amber Lee (msnbc.com)Ok, I can’t possibly write anything about this story. I’ve tried over and over, but I just have no words to express the sadness I feel when I read this article from MSNBC.COM. It’s been so long since I’ve read anything that literally made my breathing stop. As this recount of a woman’s horrific experience in her last hours of her life is told, I had to stop myself from pounding my fists on the desk at work, and at times, from crying at the thought of this happening to anyone I love. So I bring to you Dennis Murphy’s transcript of the story that aired on Dateline NBC on June 6, 2008. First caution: the story is 6 web pages long. Don’t skim through it. Be sure you have the time to allow the words to penetrate your mind and heart. Second caution: do not think that any of these turns of the screw cannot happen again. The people involved are very, very real, and those in the position to stop it are very, very human. Third caution: depending on how emotional of a person you are, this story may bring you to tears. I myself have never cried at a movie or over a book, but this nearly did it. Now, click this link to the story, and hope that this man, and the countless others like him, severely pay for what they have done.

My thoughts on this matter are posted next, as “My two cents…” Please read after reading the article.

Do not play the following clip if you do not meet all three of the following prerequisites:

  • You are NOT at work;
  • You are NOT sensitive to sexually graphic lyrics;
  • You have an appreciation for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

That said… Enjoy the wonderfulness of the newest Star Trek Rap, added one day ago on YouTube. Don’t ask how I found it.

UPDATE: [June 4, 2008 @ 1:48am PDT] I discovered the original video that the above was inspired from. It’s after the jump. This one has a definite early 90’s feel to it. I didn’t even know the human mind could still produce music of that flava.
